Prescription Drugs Essays - Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences

Prescription Drugs In a recent article, an MNBC correspondent brought up the issue of high prices on prescription drugs. Many of these drugs are special vitamins, as well as supplements that certain peoples bodies lack and need and are forced to buy. This poses a financial problem. If this were to happen in both Canada and the United States, many families in both countries would suffer severely for this medical reason, a reason they shouldn't have to pay for. In some aspects, this is selfish of the government. By leaving these drugs to be overpriced, the government is basically turning a blind eye towards the fact that many of these people are having to spend an extra thousand dollars, maybe an extra thousand dollars they don't have. The prices on these drugs could easily be regulated, but, as stated in the article, the money that these companies receive goes towards research and cures for the treatments these people are receiving. So it comes down to health care. Should the health care system pay for these? While it would solve problems, it would also produce them. People with privatize health care are settled, they put in a certain amount of money each month, and they get these medications along with the system. If a common health care system would pay for these drugs, two things would occur. First, the health cares budget would go down. Not just a little, but it would plummet. Health care coming out of taxes would not be enough, and as a result, taxes would be raised. This is probably the last thing people want. Secondly, many, many people would go away from the deal much richer. Basically, it's like asking for everyone else to pay for their problems. So who's to blame? Nobody, really. You can't say it's a persons fault for being sick and requiring medical help. Also, you can't expect everyone else to pay for them to get better, a lot of people can't afford higher taxes, and it's punishing them. So it is a problem with difficult solutions, but the best solution would be for the government to limit the high prices of these drugs, but at the same time, put more and more money into research for finding a cure for these illnesses. This would solve both problems, and with the budget in both Canada and the United States, this wouldn't pose too many financial problems. Bibliography Source: http://www.msnbc.com/news/245699.asp

A StreetCar Named Desire

Hence, blacks mingle with whites, and members of different ethnic groups play poker and bowl together. Stanley, the son of Polish immigrants, represents the changing face of America. Williamss romanticizing is more evident in his portrayal of New Orleans as a city where upper-class people marry members of the lower class, fghts get ugly but are forgotten the next day, and the perpetual bluesy notes of an old piano take the sting out of poverty. The play immediately establishes Stanley and Blanche as polar opposites, with Stella as the link between them. Stage directions describe Stanley as a virulent character whose chief pleasure is women. His dismissal of Blanches beauty is therefore significant, ecause it shows that she does not exude his same brand of carnal desire. On the other hand, Blanches delicate manners and sense of propriety are offended by Stanleys brutish virility. Stanleys qualities†variously described as vitality, heartiness, brutality, primitivism, lust for life, animalistic†lead him over the course of the play into an unrelenting, unthinking assault on the already crumbling facade of Blanches world. Blanche comes across as a frivolous, hysterical, insensitive, and self- obsessed individual as she derides her sisters lesser social status and doesnt xpress Joy at seeing Stella so in love. Blanche, who arrives in New Orleans having lost Belle Reve and having been forced to leave her Job, exudes vulnerability and emotional frailty. Stanleys cocky interactions with Blanche show him to be insensitive †he barely lets Blanche get a word in edgewise as he quickly assesses her beauty. Nevertheless, in this introduction, the audience is likely to sympathize with Stanley rather than Blanche, for Blanche behaves superficially and haughtily, while Stanley comes across as unpretentious, a social being with a zest for life. Stanleys entrance ith a package of meat underscores his primitive qualities. It is as if he were bringing it back to his cave fresh from the kill. His entrance also underscores the intense sexual bond between him and Stella, which is apparent to the other characters as well. Stanley yells Catch! as he tosses the package, and a moment later the Negro woman yells Catch what! Eunice and the Negro woman see something sexual, and scandalously hilarious, in Stanleys act of tossing the meat to a breathlessly delighted Stella. The name of the Kowalskis street underscores the extreme, opposing rchetypes that Stanley and Blanche represent. Elysian Fields is the name for the ancient Greek version of the afterlife. Stanley, the primitive, pagan reveller who is in touch with his vital core, is at home in the Elysian Fields, but the Kowalskis home and neighbourhood clearly are not Blanches idea of heaven. Blanche represents a society that has become too detached from its animal element. She is distinctly over civilized and has repressed her vitality and her sexuality. Blanches health and her sanity are Scene 2 Scene Two starts to move our sympathies away from Stanley as the more malignant spects of his character start to surface. Whereas Scene One stresses the sexual attraction that drew Stella and Stanley to one another despite class differences, Scene Two shows Stanley acting disrespectful to Stella and antagonistic to her sister. Meanwhile, our compassion for Blanche increases as Williams reveals Just how destitute she is by showing that all of her belongings in the world amount to a trunk full of gaudy dresses and cheap Jewellery. In one sense, Stanley and Blanche are fighting for Stella†each would like to pull Stella beyond the reach of the other. But their opposition is also more elemental. They are incompatible forces, manners versus manhood†and peace between them is no more than a temporary cease-fire. Blanche represents the Old Souths intellectual romanticism and dedication to appearances. Stanley represents the New Souths ruthless pursuit of success and economic pragmatism. When Stanley confronts Blanche after her bath, she shows that she understands the nature of their clash when she tells him that Stella doesnt understand him as well as she does. Calling upon the Napoleonic code enables Stanley to Justify his feelings of entitlement toward Stellas inheritance. In doing so, he shows that he is ignorant of legal technicalities, because Belle Reve, located in Laurel, Mississippi, wouldnt fall under New Orleans Jurisdiction. However, Stanleys repeated references to the Napoleonic code highlight the fact that his conflict with Blanche is also a gender showdown. Stanleys greed reveals his misogyny, or woman- hating tendencies. As a man, Stanley feels that what Stella has belongs to him. He also hates Blanche as a woman and as a person with a more prestigious family name, and therefore suspects that Blanches business dealings have been dishonest. Blanche takes the first of many baths in this scene. She claims that steaming hot baths are necessary to calm her nerves, a believable excuse given her constant hysteria. Yet Blanches constant need to wash her body symbolizes her need for emotional, spiritual, and mental cleansing. Her bathing foreshadows the eventual revelation of her sordid past. She desires to rid herself of her social blemishes and start over after leaving Laurel. Two mysteries from Scene One are solved in Scene Two. Blanche reveals the boy she spoke of at the end of Scene One to be her usband. She tells Stanley that she hurt her husband the way that Stanley would like to hurt her, warning him that his goal is impossible, since she is not young and vulnerable anymore. Blanche knew her husbands weakness and unfeelingly used that weakness to destroy him. Yet she is naive to think that Stanley wont be able to do the same thing to her. She would like to believe that her age and experience protect her against Stanleys callous assaults, but Stanley recognizes Blanches essential weakness. Also, Stellas revelation to the audience that she is pregnant when she asks Stanley not to mention h er pregnancy to Blanche) explains Blanches remark about Stellas weight gain, and Stellas refusal to discuss her weight gain with her sister.

Case Beverly Inc Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Case Beverly Inc - Essay Example The expansion plan involves the opening of three new stores each year in the next three years. Consequently, the company sought to borrow a loan in order to finance the expansion plan. The maximum amount accepted by the financier is $ 100 million. On that note, the cash inflows and cash outflows originating from receipt of the cash proceeds of the loan and payments of interest and the principal amount should be presented as financing activities. That is, the monetary value of these transactions should be recorded as financing activities of the company because it is a long-term credit (ASC-230 3-4). The company drew a portion in two instances, on the facility. It is provided that on July 15, 2010, the company drew $ 60 million on the facility; on August 30, 2010, the company drew an additional $ 40 million on the facility; and on September 30, 2010, the company paid down the draws by $ 50 million. All these transactions should be recorded based on their net values (ASC-230 8-9). The warehouse damaged by the Hurricane is considered as one of the company’s assets. The purchase of an insurance policy necessitates the payment of an annual premium. The value of the premium is estimated based on the degree of the risk covered. Insurance claims are paid to cover for damages and losses caused to a company’s assets. Therefore, the $ 15 million reimbursement to Beverly should be classified under the investment activities of the company. The classification is based on the fact that the premium payments are invested in an insurance company in order to indemnify the insured in case of a loss (ASC-230 5-6). Review, Evaluation & Analysis of a case study Essay

Review, Evaluation & Analysis of a case study - Essay Example However, Rosen (1998) emphasizes the importance of initial finance in ventures of small businesses. On the other hand, Santarelli& Vivarelli (2006) found a positive correlation between the choice of financing and the growth and survival of a venture. This paper explores the role of entrepreneurial finance in the entrepreneurial life cycle. According to Leach & Melicher (2003), the early phases of the entrepreneurship life cycle, the venture exhibits undercapitalization and in effect the entrepreneur must grab the different sources of capital. Mason (2007) discusses the role of informal sources of finances, which are often ignored in class room environment, but have significant role in the entrepreneurial life cycle. According to Preston (2007), angel investors are high net worth persons who inject funds in the early stage companies. Reminiscent of an American program, Shark Tank, that features high net worth individuals who are looking for investment opportunities in television. Kerr, Lerner & Schoar (2010) found out that angel investments improve entrepreneurial success. These opportunities for tapping capital at such early stages must occur as the venture progresses from startup through the survival stage. The major objective of the entrepreneurial finance is to assist the entrepreneurs through the life cycle of the venture to continually make better investment and financing decisions. The process covers the entire venture life cycle from startup to exit and inquires into issues such as deal structures, incentives, business models and valuation to a greater degree than normal equity management. Winton & Yerramilli (2008) in a comparison between bank and venture capital financing delved into the metrics of the choice between these two methods of financing a venture. According to N Berger & F Udell (1998), entrepreneurial finance plays an important role in small business as opposed to the large business. The small

Ttrapped teens TV Show Essay Example for Free

Ttrapped teens TV Show Essay My TV show is called trapped teens I chose this particular title because the show is about teenagers who are trapped in a house. In the first of my opening credits it shows the word previously on the screen for 1 second. The colours on this shot which is a big close-up are black orange and yellow. I choose these because they represent different moods. In the next 3 credits it will show what happened previously in case any of the viewers missed it. These obviously would not be here on the first episode. After these shots there is a logo spinning this represents the beginning of a totally new episode. The logo is the letter T connected to another letter T. It has several different colours in it I decided to do this to represent the contestants different moods. In screen shot 6 there are all the contestants walking up some steps into a door. The colours are just plain blue with the exception of the contestants clothing which are brightly coloured so they stand out. This is a long shot the reason for this is because that way you can see all of the contestants. The shot lasts for 2seconds. The music in this shot is upbeat and modern I chose this, as it will grab the audiences attention immediately. Screen shot 7 has all the contestants standing in a line as if they have just got in the door I chose this as it links in with the next shot. Again the background is plain blue and again the contestants are wearing brightly coloured clothes. I used a medium long shot. The reason for choosing this is because I want the viewers to be able to see the contestants face and body features. The shot lasts or 1 second and again the music are upbeat and modern. In screen shot 8 again all the contestants standing in a line it also has jail bars fall from the top of the screen to the bottom. The reason for me doing this is simply because this represents the teenagers being trapped. I also chose it because it shows there is no easy way for the teenagers to escape. There is one possible way and that is the way they came in but they would be unable to break through the steel door. Again the background in this shot is blue and the contestants are all dressed to stand out. The bars on the shot are black so the colour can be separated from the backdrop and the contestants clothes. This camera shot I used in this particular shot was a medium shot I chose this so the viewers can see everything that is happening. This shot lasts for 2seconds and the music again is upbeat and modern but there is a loud crash in this shot when the bars hit the floor. In screen shot 9 the contestants are still behind bars but now they are all holding cards with a letter on them. When the cards are put together they spell the name of the show trapped teens. The reason I decided to do this was because I felt that this would get across a prison like feeling meaning its not just a holiday. Again the backdrop on this shot is blue. I used a close up shot so viewers can see what the cards say. The music again is modern and upbeat and it lasts for 1second. Trapped teens voiceover is going to be Jade Goody. I chose this particular voice because a majority of viewers will recognise it. I also picked Jade because she is a bubbly, energetic and friendly person. So she will give the show some comedy if the contestants fail. The voiceover Jade will be on the show everyday. She will start at 8:00am by saying, day __ in the teen house its 8:00am and the contestants are just about to be woken up. The voiceover would then say something every time something interesting happened, or if the want to get a message across to one or more of the contestants. For example if the wanted a contestant in the talk room. This show will also have presenters. These will interview the contestants after they have being evicted. For this job I have decided to use Ant and Dec. I chose these because again everybody knows who they are and they will bring comedy to the show. Another reason for picking them is because they are award-winning presenters. Overall I personally believe my programme will be successful in targeting my audience ranged between 13 and 18 years old because there is a chance that they could star in the show, and win the star prize of à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½5000 and a reasonable dream coming true. I also believe it will be successful because shows similar to this have already been screened on TV and have being successful.

Define the field of study: ââ€" Environmental science is the study of the biotic and abiotic factors in the environment ââ€" It specifically focuses on the interaction that humans have with their environment as well as the impact that they have on their environment ââ€" It also looks at the cultural, sociological, and behavioral interactions between humans and their environment What do practitioners in this field do in their jobs? ââ€" Environmental scientists do lots of work in the field e.g. testing water quality, looking at air pollution, and testing to see how chemicals could disperse in the event of a toxic spill ââ€" They also study various fields e.g. physics, climatology, geology, biology, and meteorology and look into other areas such as natural resources management, statistics, and mathematical modeling ââ€" Environmental scientists analyze environmental data ââ€" They are also required to make lots of graphs and charts based off of what they find ââ€" They also analyze data to determine the importance of human actions and activities on the environment ââ€" Also they find and fix pollution and other environmental problems ââ€" They also offer advice to businesses on how to keep the environment clean or on how to have a cleaner and more eco-friendly way of disposing waste ââ€" Environmental scientists, instead of studying isolated organisms, look at different interconnected ecosystems so that they can learn more about the environment or the ecosystem in any given region ââ€" They also study the earths properties, predict hazards, provide assessments on environmental issues as well as locating and preserving resources ââ€" Also environmental scientists deal with invasive species What Skills and tools do the practitioners use? Some tools that environment... ...ystem is a water treatment system that relies very little if at all on mechanical elements e.g. wetlands. Relate this field to another science: I think that environmental science can be related to medicine. I think that the main similarities are the urge to help and save people as well as keep things healthy. In medicine you try to help people get back to full health by looking at various medications and do whatever is necessary to have them get better and stay healthy. In some branches of environmental science you try to predict when and where some natural disasters may strike. By doing so you can alert people in nearby areas to be aware of the disaster and you could ultimately save lots of lives. In other part of environmental science you are focus on keeping different ecosystems as well as the environment clean and healthy to give us all a better place to live.
